This project was about how to create the Android One website for Feature phone users in India. I tried to apply both the Google and Android brand standards. So there were several restrictions we had to follow, different from what we normally do for smart phones, yet I wanted to maintain the sophistication of Google’s design. I incorporated Android design principles as much as possible in terms of layout, color usage and font sizes. Interestingly, design wasn’t the only challenge. Coordinating with India’s marketing team as well as addressing differences in design standards and communication with the local agency proved to be a good challenge too.
For the Election 2014 in Taiwan, we adapted the election site, created by the EMEA team. The taiwanese site had to accommodate far more events and a larger roster of candidates than foreseen in the original template. Balancing the market’s needs with Google’s brand standard will be an ongoing challenge, as Google continues to expand its reach worldwide. I was in charge of picking the images and designing the hero switcher used instead of the global navigation which was no longer valid function on this template.
